Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the point of this website?

A: We made this website due to a lack of comprehensive information on each Sydney suburb online all in one spot, which we discovered only too painfully when relocating from Queensland a couple of years ago.

Being forced to trawl over numerous forums and posts several years old, looking at government data, asking family members and reading various out-of-date “livability rankings” by media outlets was extremely time consuming and often not very helpful.

During this search we came across numerous threads on forums and social media posted by people in the same boat as us, and realised there was a demand for summing up suburbs “in everyday language”.

This was especially true given that many of the media’s “livability surveys” basically amount to: “Yes, everyone should live in Kirribilli or Mosman”, which is obviously not a viable prospect financially for most of us mere mortals.

Q: Why should your opinion on suburbs matter?

A: Suburb ratings on this site aren’t formulated only from our own opinions – we consult with real estate agents, relatives, friends, families and locals who have lived in multiple locations in Sydney including the suburb itself on top of our own experiences. We interview locals during our visits from a standardised list of questions, and factor in some of their consensus as well.

We then cross-reference all of this with data from the ABS, crime stats, APIs from multiple real estate websites, and more.

The main point to bear in mind is: we have no reason to give a suburb a positive or negative rating; we’re simply aiming to create the most comprehensive, unbiased base of information we wish we had when suburb-hunting for ourselves.

We’re not trying to sell property; we’re not trashing suburbs we have bad experiences with; we’re trying to make things easier for you when choosing where to live in Sydney.
